Honour for foreman Keith

Keith Chapman, site foreman for the construction of the Groundwork Urban Oasis garden at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, was made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Keith, who also supervised the building of Groundwork gardens at this year’s RHS Cardiff, Malvern and BBC Gardeners’ World shows, received the honour for his work in promoting skills through the WorldSkills Competition.

He founded his company, Keith Chapman Landscapes, in North Yorkshire four years ago and works mainly for private clients.

Keith graduated from Askham Bryan College and is a member of UK WorldSkills Alumni. He won the UKSkills Landscaping Competition in 2005 and represented the UK in the 2007 World Championships in Japan.

He went on to become part of the training team and is now an ambassador.

WorldSkills, the world’s largest such competition sees young people from more than 50 countries competing to be the best in a chosen area.

He said: “I was very shocked and honoured to receive the award. It recognised my work with WorldSkills over the past few years, promoting educational skills in young people new to the sector.”
